MAGic Maps is a project dedicated to the production and distribution of high quality Canadian topographic maps formatted for use with the Magellan eXplorist, eXplorist x10, Triton, and Crossover series of Global Positioning System Receivers (GPSr). Our goal is to be able to provide users of these devices with a source of free 1:50,000 scale maps covering the entire Canadian landmass.
Become a Premium Member
We're now offering our users the option of becoming Premium Members. While our basic membership will continue to provide access to our entire map collection, Premium Members will have access to scripts that automate the process of making several types of raster maps and tutorials that will guide them through the process of making vector maps. To learn more, click "Premium Membership" at the top of the page.
In Production: CANVEC Vector Maps
We've reached the point where we're begun building our national 1:50,000 scale collection of CANVEC maps designed for use with Magellan eXplortists, Tritons, and Crossover units. Several of our premium members have been generating maps and you can see what is available through our new graphical map browser or see a full list of maps.
If you would like to see a specific map or maps done, post a note in the Vector Maps Request forum and one of the premium members may do it for you!
CANVEC Maps with French Text
With the release of MakeCANVEC Beta 0.3, Premuim Members now have the option of generating maps with text in either French or English. While the choice of language is limited in some cases to the data included with the source files (for most of the country, only one of the two languages is included) for features such as toponyms, roads, and water bodies, names for standard features will be labeled in the chosen language. To be be able to tell which files are which, those compiled with French text will end with F-CV (ie 021P12-BATHURST-F-CV.imi).
TOPORAMA: Over 35 Gigs of Free Maps
Our TOPORAMA raster topographic map collection now exceeds 35 gigabytes in size and is complete past 64 degrees north. Well done to all the premium members who have been contributing maps, especially saintamc. Keep up the good work!
